Engicon Named Local Consultant on Winning Team for Museum of Jesus’ Baptism at Bethany, Jordan

Engicon has been appointed as the local consultant to the multi-disciplinary team led by Níall McLaughlin Architects (NMLA), winner of the international design competition for the Museum of Jesus’ Baptism at Bethany, Jordan.

The competition was commissioned by the Foundation for the Development of the Lands Adjacent to the Baptism Site and managed by Malcolm Reading Consultants. The six-month selection process brought together a shortlist of seven international studios and an Advisory Panel with expertise spanning architecture, landscape, museums, and heritage.

The winning architect’s concept presents the museum as an east-west journey shaped by a narrative sequence of wilderness, water, and witness. The design is intended to respond sensitively to the site and the adjacent UNESCO World Heritage context.

Engicon’s appointment as local consultant supports the team’s progression of the design in Jordan.

The museum is planned to open in 2030 to mark the bimillennial of Christ’s baptism and is expected to become a globally significant spiritual and cultural landmark that deepens the visitor experience at the Baptism Site on the east bank of the Jordan River.
